Cereal Milk Recipe by Momofuku Milk Bar

I remember when I first started my real full time job, the only thing could make me get up early was a bowl of cereals.  I am not kidding, I even craved it when I was sleeping at night and so looking forward to get up in the morning to have that bowl of cereals (sounds totally unbelivlable, but 100% true!).  What made me so addicted to the bowl of cereals were the crushiness from the cereals and the silky smoothness from the milk, but what I love the most was that cereal milk left in the bowl. 

Admit it, you love that cereal milk too!  Momofuku Milk Bar in New York knew how much people love that cereal milk, so they "created" it and sell it at their store (very smart idea!).  Owner and Pastry Chef, Christina Tosi was nice enough to write a book and share some of the Momofuku's favorite recipes with everyone.  The first recipe in the book OF COURSE was their famous Cereal Milk.  If you want to try your hands to make their famous Cereal Milk, Serious Eats shared this recipe on their website and more important, they even converted the English measurement (the book uses English measurements) to American commonly use measurement.  Sweet=)

DKNY New Cupcake Fragrances

DKNY is launching three limited edition cupcake inspired fragrances.  Three fragrances in flavors of Pink Macaroon, Creamy Meringue, and Tark Key Lime comes packaged in pastel pink, yellow, and green apple-shaped covers.

The Pink Macaroon is a soft, feminine fragrance that is concocted in notes of almonds, rose marzipan, nectarine, kumquat, pomegranate, and fruity flavors.

The Creamy Meringue on the other hand, is a cupcake-inspired scent blending notes of soft lemon cream, bergamot, freesia, frangipani, and passionflower. 

Last but not the least; the Tark Key Lime is a refreshing fragrance that blends notes of orange zest, bergamot, lime, mandarin, citrus flavor, and neroli.

911 - these three digits were a defining moment for all New Yorkers, Americans and all people around the world. 


I still remember I was in college when the tragedy happened in NY.  I was about getting ready to school, and I heard my roommate was screaming in the living room.  I quickly ran out from my bedroom and see what happened.  We were both looking at the TV screen, and I was beyond speechless.  I was thinking what I was seeing was not real.  It just looked like another blockbuster Hollywood movie.    Sadly, that was not a movie, everything was real.  


Sad, angry, speechless, confused, emotional, heart-breaking...those are all the adjectives I could use to described how I felt at that particular moment.  

To those who passed away from the tragedy, you are always in our heart.


To those who dare to lose their own lives to rescue as many as innocent people after the tragedy, you guys rock!


To those who lose their friends and family, you guys are always in our prayers.  


To those who fight for our country, thank you!  We know freedom is not free.  


Please slow down and take a moment to thank God for what we have and NEVER take anything from granted. 

Cake and Fashion

I watch Cake Boss religiously.  I watch it, record it, and sometimes re-re-watch it; that's how much I enjoy this show.  Buddy and his crew are very talented and creative about their cake design.

 
Couple months ago, I watched one of the episodes about making some fashion inspired cakes for the fashion designer, Issac Mizrahi for his new Fall 2011 Collection Fashion Show.  Issac Mizrahi debuted his Fall 2011 collection titled "Cake." at New York Fashion Week. The show was inspired by poodles and Wayne Thiebaud's painting of cakes.

Here are little recap from the show:

Issac stopped by Carlos Bakery in New Jeresy and asked Buddy Valastro to create some cakes for his fashion show.  Not just Buddy needed to create the cakes, he also need to find a way to make the cakes light enough for the models to carry on the stage.  It was a challenging project, but Buddy delivered great quality of the "cakes" (he used styrofoam to make the "cakes" and covered them with real fondant and fondant decorations) and meet the expectation of Issac.

"Seattle cheesecake takes NY cheesecake!?!"

Last November, Mr. G and I went to Seattle for our annual vacation.  As soon as we were landed, I could smell the fresh air, I could see the greens, I could feel that I entered into a twilight zone...

Seattle is a very unqiue city and I have a love/hate relationship with "her" (I seriously think that Seattle is a girl because she is very "moody" all the time!)  I hate the weather (due to the location of Seattle, it's either cloudy or rainny 293 days among 365 days in a year), but I do love the people, the food culture and the well developed transportation system (yes, we didn't drive during our 7 day visit at all!  We took buses, cab, monorail and walk everywhere.).

After dropping off our belongings in the hotel room, we walked to the famous Pike Place Market  for some lunch.   A lot of people might think that Pike Place Market is just for tourists and if you are cool or local enough, you won't go there!  I TOTALLY disagree with it.  We talked to local and some friends, who have been living in the city for a long time or a regular visitor of Seattle, they adore this market O so much!  The fresh produce, the fish throwing, the street musician, MOST IMPORTANTLY, the FOOD! 

We tried countless of awesome food here at the Pike Place Market; this time I am going to introduce you a very tiny cheesecake boutique, called The Confesstional!  Unlike the triangle shape of NY cheesecakes, The Confesstional's cheesecakes are a petite cup-size.  They have about 15-20 different flavors daily, and their flavors change with the season.  I have tried the rasberry flavor and the caramel flavor, they both are "unreal" - Good flavor, tasty crust, smooth texture...(I can go on and on...) and compare to the NY chesecakes, I think they are lighter and fluffier!

If you have chance to check out Seattle, stop by the Pike Place Market and The Confesstional, you won't be disappointed about what you see and taste!  One great news I found out from The Confesstional's website that you could order their cheesecakes online and they ship them within US.  How awesome that is!
