Home Sweet Home

The Orange County Fair is coming very soon (Mid July), we are so excited to go there to enjoy some fair food and see some farm animals again this year.  Besides the food and animals, I love to see the exhibits of table setting and food too.  This year, I decided joining one of the many contests they offer - the fondant decoration cupcakes contest.  I registered about a month ago and started putting ideas together immediately.  Since their theme this year is Home Sweet Home, I "kind of" go along with the theme.  Being a home owner is one of the biggest American dream people are having for many years - New Home Sweet Home is my theme for my creation!

I made the toppers first and then spent about half day to finish some faux cupcakes.  For decorating cake/cupcakes contests, it's required to submit faux cupcakes/cake rather than real ones because the exhitbits will be showing at the fair for about a month, I guess that make sense to keep the cupcakes/cake look as good as on the first day.  I will share with you of how to make my faux cupcakes next time (stay tuned!).

In the process of making my creation, it reminded me of all the painful and sweet moments of getting our first house.  I still consider getting our first hourse is the most stressful moment I have in my life so far.  We need to put tons of documents together to get loans and submit to the bank.  We used tons of boxes to pack our belongings.  We sweated from head to toes to get our house painted.  We spent days and nights to read all the documents we received from our realtor and made our decision carefully. But after all that, everything was done and settled, and we finally got to enjoy our new home and new lives together.

So here are my new creation, and I will let you guys know how it goes.  Hopefully, you will see my creation at the fair and don't forget to snap a pictures of my creation and share with me and everyone=)

Love always makes me puke!

I made a dozen of South Park Valentine's Day Special cupcake toppers for my Etsy customer last week.  My customer got the idea from Wendy and Stan from South Park, and he wanted me to make Stan's throwing up on the toppers.  If you are a die hard fans of South Park, you know that Stan got nervous when he falls in love.  He often vomits when Wendy trys to kiss or talk to him.

I made some talking bubbles to go with the toppers, so it looks like the two characters are talking to each other.

The cupcake toppers were sent out by certified mail.
They were safely arrived at my customer's house.
Here is a picture my customer sent me.  "you bake, I make them pretty!"

Hello, Hello Kitty Cupcakes!

Few days ago, I made a half dozen order for my friend.  He specifically reqquested certain Japanese characters, which his girlfriend likes - a nerdy Hello Kitty, an army Hello Kitty, Rikkauma bear, Korilakkuma bear, and Astro boy and his girlfriend.  These characters are all from Japan, and they are very popular in most Asian countries.  Since I grown up with these characters (I used to obsessed with Astro boy when I was in high school.), I was beyond excited to make these cute little toppers for my friend and his girlfriend.

They came out so cute!  I didn't want to give my "babies" away.  LOL!  I am so glad that my friend and his girlfriend liked them so much.

Just to remind you guys, our Etsy Shop is open for public.  And currently, you could buy the Hello Kitty toppers (cupcakes are not included) from our Etsy Shop.  We accept Paypal payment and ship within the States (sorry, no international shipping yet!).  Click here to check out our Etsy Shop.  I promise I am going to post more items on our Etsy Shop.  Holiday seasons are coming, I am sure you need some little decorative tags, cupcake holders, or cupcake picks and toppers to dress up your naked cupcakes soon, so stay tuned for more items.

How to make your cupcakes look like a super model (without fondant)?

Mrs. G has heard a lot of people expressed how much they dislike about gum paste and fondant decoration on their cupcakes.  Most of them agree that they make the cupcakes look like a "super model", but those decoration kill the flavor of a cupcake.  So if you don't like gum paste and fondant, what could you/C for Cupcake Cupcakery do to make your cupcakes look as amazing as their taste?

There are quite a few alternatives -

Seasonal fresh fruits - such as strawberry, raspberry, and cherry.

Home made candied orange
Dried fruits and nuts

Candies and other treats - or if you like a treat on the top of your cupcake, we could use candies, cookies, coconuts, etc.

Belgium waffle
Powder sugar, powder chocolate or shredded chocolate

Fresh flower petals - some flower petals are edible, some not!

Cupcake topper - you could get the toppers from any craft store or baking supply store.  Or you could even make your own toppers.

There are so many ways to make your cupcakes look great without sacrificing the taste of them.  I hope that this post could help you to decide what you could do with your cupcakes the next time without those fancy gum paste and fondant decoration.  Mrs. G personally thinks that these non-gum paste or fondant toppings are classy and tasty!
