Great Compliment

I have shared some cupcake pictures of Dana and Tim's travel themed wedding on my last post this week.  Today, I would like to share this great complimentary email I received from Dana's mom, Debbi, who I also mentioned on my last post.

I thought the cupcakes turned out fantastic!! They were soooooo adorable- everybody was commenting on them. All that attention to detail - just so cute!  They really pulled together the travel theme. And they were delicious too - that's the best part. (My favorite flavor was the chocolate peanut butter, and I still can't decide which was my favorite fondant topper - all so cute!.) Call Me Mrs. Blue Ribbon

It seems like the blog has been abandoned for a while.  Sorry to all my followers for not updating my blog more often lately.  I I have been really sick these couple weeks; and I finally feel a little bits better today and would like to share some good news with everyone.  If you have been following my blog or our facebook page, you might recall I submitted my first ever OC Fair fondant decorative cupcakes for a contest last month.  And guess what, I W-O-N!  I got the first place and my first blue ribbon.  I wanted to share the good news with everyone earlier; however, I would love to wait until I get my blue ribbon first. 

Here some pictures I took at the fair and would like to share with all of you, and I don't mind to be called Mrs. Blue Ribbon=).  When I picked up the blue ribbon, they also gave me the comments and the score from the judges.  12/12 full marks with all the positive comments!  I was in cloud 9 and I felt so happy that someone appreciate my artworks.

Decorating your lonely cake stand

I made some fake cupcakes a year ago and I have shared my "secret recipe" of these non baked goodies with everyone last year.  If you missed it, click here to see our "recipe".

I mentioned that I have registered to enter a fondant decorative cupcakes contest at the OC Fair this year last week.  One of the requirements for submitting my creation is to make "fake cupcakes".  So now I am going to share with you how I twisked my "old recipe", which I shared with everyone last year and make the fake cupcakes ever more realistic.

What you need:

Tooth picks
Styroform balls
Brushes
Acrylic paints
Plaster of Paris
Vinyl Spackling
Cupcake Liners
Cupcake pan

1)  For the base of the cupcake, please refer to here.  I still suggest to use Plaster of Paris for the base becuase the weight could secure your top portion better.  Line the cupcake liners in a cupcake pan and pour your "batter" (Plaster of Paris) inside the liner.  After pouring the Plaster of Paris in the cupcake liners, make sure to put couple tooth pick in the middle of the "batter" because they will help to "connect" the top cake portion to the base (see Step 3).

2)  Get some styrofoam balls, cut them in half (I used my bread knife to cute them, and it worked perfect.)  Brush some acrylic paints (I used brown here for my "chocolate cupcakes") to make cover the white color of the styrofoam balls. (

3)  After the "batter" and the cake portion are totally dry out (the "batter" take longer time to dry, probably half of the day, the cake portion should be dry out in 3-4 hours max). Now we could put the base and the cake portion together.  The tooth picks we inserted to the "batter" on Step 1, will hold these two portions perfectly together. 

4)  Get a small jar of Vinyl Spackling from your local home improvement stores (such as ACE, Home Depot, or Lowe's).  If you don't want to add any color inside, you could use it alone as a basic white "butter cream" frosting.  If you want color for your frosting, add few drops of acrylic paint of your choice and mix well.

5)  To avoid messiness, I highly recommended people to use disposable cups and spoons to mix the color in the "frosting".

6) Put your "butter cream frosting" in a piping bag and pipe on top of the cupcake, let's dry for few hours. 

Super Mario Bros Round 3

I have been busy this week about couple rush orders, Christmas shopping and some Christmas craft projects.  It's been a very productive weekend though.

I am so blessed that I got couple orders from my Etsy Shop.  Even though they are rush orders, but I am so glad that I could finish them on time to have them ready for my customers.  I finished a dozen of Super Mario Bros cupcake toppers for a customer in MI and some cupcake picks and gift tags for another customer in FL (pictures will be posted soon).  It's my third time of doing the Super Mario Bros cupcake toppers in these two months; did I get bored?!  No, every time I found new way to make them look better.

Hello, Hello Kitty Cupcakes!

Few days ago, I made a half dozen order for my friend.  He specifically reqquested certain Japanese characters, which his girlfriend likes - a nerdy Hello Kitty, an army Hello Kitty, Rikkauma bear, Korilakkuma bear, and Astro boy and his girlfriend.  These characters are all from Japan, and they are very popular in most Asian countries.  Since I grown up with these characters (I used to obsessed with Astro boy when I was in high school.), I was beyond excited to make these cute little toppers for my friend and his girlfriend.


They came out so cute!  I didn't want to give my "babies" away.  LOL!  I am so glad that my friend and his girlfriend liked them so much.

Vintage Tattoo Inspired Cupcakes

I was so very happy and flattered when I received an email from Tattoo Artist, Nakota Hedrick from Outer Limits Tattoo in City of Orange, CA.  She wanted to place an order for one of her fellow tattoo artists for farewelling him.  I could never ever dream of I could do some "sort of" artworks for any tattoo artist, not to mention that I was doing some decorative cupcakes for bunch of amazing tattoo artists at Outer Limits Tattoo.  I just recently got some inks from Nakota; she is very talented and skillful tattoo artist (I will talk more about her and my tattoo in my future post.  I am still waiting for my skin to heal, so stay tuned.)

She was very open about any design for the cupcakes.  The only thing she mentioned was heart and she also told me this tattoo artist was leaving the shop, so she wants to surprise him with some yummy treats for the very last time.  I was thinking Sailor Jerry Tattoo will make a great cupcake topper and also the colors and designs are catchy, bright and colorful.  Most importantly, they are classic!
