You are the icing on my cupcake!

May 26, 2009, a warm and sunny beautiful day after a Memorial Day weekend, Mr. G and I both took a day off after the long weekend. This day, we went to a very special place in Santa Ana - a place that is going to change our lives forever.

It was an exciting day to both of us; I got to admit that I even got butterflies in my stomach.  We got there around 11 in the morning; we got called not for so long and walked in to the office for signing some paper works. We then entered in to a peaceful and quiet room after signing the paper works.  A guy came in to the room and started talking.  I paid close attention to every single word he said; I closed my eyes and realized tears were forming in my eyes - There is no fancy flower arrangements, no beautiful and expensive grown, no six bride mates marching down the aisle with me, no 100+ guests cheering for us...the only one person I saw was the one holding my hands, who was also standing in front of me.  The peaceful and quiet environment made me hear and understand all the words clearly and dearly.

Guitar + Cupcake = Our Love Story (card made by me)
I was slowly but carefully following every words "the guy" said:  I, take you Mr. G, to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part. I looked into Chris’s eyes and noticed that tear drops were rolling down from his eyes too. Sooner than we realized, we were announced as Husband and Wife.

Dear Mr. G,

It's hard to believe three years have passed by ridiculously fast.  During these amazing three years, we got to know each other a little better each day; and we get used to each other's all the good and bad habbits.  We might be different in many ways, but we are like two pieces in a jigsaw puzzle because we fit together perfectly.  I just want to let you know how much I love you and will continue loving you till the day we leave the world.

You are the icing on my cupcake!  Without you, I will be one "naked" cupcake=)

A Sweet Anniversary

A friend of mine and one of my loyal customers just celebrated she and her husband's 2-year wedding anniversary last week. I am so happy for them and I wanted to make something sweet for them to show that how much I care about her in person and her business to me.  She is such a freindly person and on top of it; she is very creative and organized too.  Becase of these gifts, she decided to open her own wedding planning business, On the Dot Event Planning. I am sure she could help the bride (and the groom) to take away a lot of stressful moments for preparing their perfect wedding.

I know she likes pink (that's the theme color at her wedding) and girly stuffs, so I designed and created a white cake pops and oreo cake pops dipped in pink candy melt (they are a heart shape cake pops) and dark chocolate as their anniversary gift.  Want to see how they celebrated their anniversary, please check out her blog, here.

Note:  If you are interested in ordering cake pops, please contact me for inforamtion=)

Love is in the Air

2/14, tomorrow is Valentine's day.  All the TVs, radio station, newspaper, magazines...are all over about this holiday, but how many of us know where this holiday came from, when, where and who are we celebrating for?!  Here is a website I found online: click about the history of Valentine's Day (If you are interested, go check it out).

This week is a busy week for me - There is a big deadline coming up at my full-time day work and couple Valentine's Day cupcake orders, of course, my birthday and my mother-in-law's birthday are also coming up this week too.  O well, I guess sometimes busy means productive, right?!

I am such a bad wife - my husband complained about how I make cupcakes for others all the time, but never for him.  Finally, Valentine's Day is a PERFECT reason for me to not to make up excuses for not making him anything, so I made some AWESOME horchata cupcakes decorated with everything that remind me of him JUST FOR MY HUSBAND!  As many of you know that I have a very art-sy husband; he is very into music.  He is a lead singer and a guitarist in a punk rock cover band, called the Knockoffs.  When I was thinking about what I should make for him, immediately I think about guitar pick and his guitar.  Except for music, he is also very into tattoo arts too.  So I just made a heart shape with frame inspired by the tattoo on his chest.

The inspiration of the other two cupcake toppers - I always like the beautiful and colorful hand painted skulls from the Día de Muertos (Day of Dead), every time when I am looking at these skulls; it reminds me of "Love till death do us part" (that's what love and marriage about=)).

The last but not the least cupcake topper - Even my husband is a social smoker (only smokes when he is drinking on the weekend).  But smokes are smokes, and they are bad for you.  I LOVE him and I want him to live healthier and longer.  So I made this topper with a very special note on it.

In return, I have received a lovely cupcake necklace from Tiffany & Co from my husband as a "Balentine's" gift (Birthday + Valentine's)!  OMG!  I could not ask for more than a better husband in my life and my next life.

To my dear husband,

I know I am not a perfect wife (I could be better)!  Sometimes, ur texts and some stuffs u said to me really touched my heart.  When you told me when u had a hard day at work, as soon as you saw me at home; u feel MUCH BETTER!  That really touched my heart and make me have a very complicated facial expression (smile and dropping happy tear drops)

Thanks for everything, Mr. G!  I love you more than you know.

XOXO,

The butter to my bread

Couple weeks ago, on an ordinary Monday, my receptionist called and told me that I have a very cute delivery up front.  I didn't know what to expect at all, but quickly walked to the front desk to "claim" my delivery.  In my mind I was thinking, I ordered something from Amazon, but how could she know what I ordered is cute?!

I got there and saw this cute Hello Kitty Edible Arrangement, but I still had no clue who sent that to me.  I was thinking must be one of the clients from my cupcakery...until I got to read the card...ha-ha, who else, silly me, of course my husband.  That's one of the sweetest things I ever received from my husband.  He is such a sweetheart and he is "the butter to my bread and the breath to my life".  How I could love this guy less?!  This cute surprise made me think of this song from Stevie Wonder:

No New Year's Day to celebrate
No chocolate covered candy hearts to give away
No first of spring
No song to sing
In fact here's just another ordinary day

No April rain
No flowers bloom
No wedding Saturday within the month of June
But what it is, is something true
Made up of these three words that I must say to you

No summer's high
No warm July
No harvest moon to light one tender August night
No autumn breeze
No falling leaves
Not even time for birds to fly to southern skies

No Libra sun
No Halloween
No giving thanks to all the Christmas joy you bring
But what it is, though old so new
To fill your heart like no three words could ever do

I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart

Giving Thanks!

It's 6:45 in the morning, my body woke me up as every other normal work day.  I was a little mad at myself for not sleeping in for a little bits more on this paid day off at first, but I quickly realized I could use this little spare time to take a minute to write down what I am going to thanks for for the past 11 months in my life.

I have an amazing husband - I got to admit that after we got married, I am happier than ever (I even told my mom about it).  Of course, both of us are not perfect, and we are still learning from each other.  But from being single to a married couple, so far, this transition has been great!  We NEVER argue with each other at all, not even one time!  One time, after a busy work day, Mr. G came home and told me that "after a shitty work day, I got home and see you and it made me feel so much better."  That's the sweetest compliment I heard in my life.  I just want to thanks God for introducing this great guy in my life.  My life has been changed since the first time I met him.  I love you, Mr. G!

I am thankful to have a "somehow" good health - Yes, I don't have a 100% good health. I have been fighting with some chronic disease for a bits.  Except for feeling tired easily, my body is pretty much the same.  I could still eat my favorite food, still go working out, still being at work, still go traveling, still doing thing I like to do (such as baking and crafting), still enjoying my life...

I have a wonderful family - This year - it's not an easy year for both my parents.  My dad had experienced a minor stroke.  After staying at the hospital for a month and a regular check up, he is back to normal.  When my mom first told me about this through the phone, I was so worry and even worse is - I could not help at all in another side of the world.  I am so proud of my mom that she is a very strong woman, who held everything nicely and took care of herself and my dad well.  Thanks God for giving my mom a strong will and healthy body for taking care of my dad though out this year.  I wish that after this minor stroke, my dad learnt his lesson of not eating too much and starting a healthier life.

And thanks God for bringing a new addition to our family - my little nephew, McRay.  Both my sister and him are doing good and his is one healthy baby!

I have to thanks God for giving me a wonderful parents-in-law.  My parents are not here in the States.  My parents-in-law has become my parents in the States since the day Mr. G and I got married.  In my friend's wedding earlier this month, she made a toast to her mother-in-law and shared with everyone that how great her in-law is and they are thank you for everything she has done for them (from making them some home made meals to take home to calling my friend when her husband was out of town to make sure everything was OK.).  I could not hold myself together, but cried!  It reminded me of the relationship I have with my in-laws.  I could not ask for a better in-laws in my life!  They are so supportive, fun and caring persons to be around with.

I still have a job - These few years are not the best years to Americans.  Laying off is not something new anymore to a lot of us.  Thanks God for providing me a great opportunity to work at an amazing company with a lot of wonderful people.  On the top of it, I got promoted and a raise this year.  This was something I didn't expect.

I am enjoying my SECOND JOB - I am so glad to have a full-time job to pay my bills.  And I am ever happier to have a second job to keep my mind contented.  I love baking, decoration, and arts.  My second job allows me to express my idea and show my creativity side to everyone.  I hope my business could keep growing and I could serve more people, who appreciate my works.

What are you giving thanks for?  Take a minute to think about it.  Enjoy your Thanksgiving and don't overcook the BIG BIRD!
