(500) Days of Summer

Summer officailly started on June 20!  YAY!  There are million reasons why I love summer.  I am going to just list a few here:

  • I got to see the sun even after a long work day or getting out from the gym at 7pm.
  • I got to take my bike out for cruising along the beach
  • I got to chill by the pool.
  • I got to do some BBQ at our cute patio.
  • I got to wear skirt and slippers!

Talking about summer, (500) Days of Summer is my ALL TIME FAVORITE movie!  This is not a love story, this is a story about love.  If you have not got a chance to watch it, you need to watch it this summer.  Besides the story of the movie, I also fall in love with the actor, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the vintage fashion style of Summer, the music in the movie and of course, appreciating the beauty of Los Angeles.  Mr. G and I even spent a day in Los Angeles to re-discover the gems of the city.  Few weeks ago, my hands got a major itch and wanted to make some cake pops to dedicate for the lovely summer in Southern California and the movie.  I have some left over cake at home (FYI - left over cake is the best for making cake pops), so I decided making some cake pops.  I will make some real cupcake decoration soon for this movie (ideas have been in my brain since last summer), I just need to find the time to do it (need to fight the time with all the wonderful outdoor activities I like to do in summer).

Here are some pictures we took when Mr. G and I pretended we are Summer and Tom in L.A.:

*P.S. I found some amazing engagment pictures of a couple on Pinterest and their theme is (500) Days of Summer for the engagment pictures and the wedding.  Would share with everyone here in our next post!

Lickable Cookie Wallpaper!?

Have you watched the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory's movie?  The chocolate factory was the most magical place on earth to kids.  Everything was edible -flowers, plants, chocolate river, and lickable wallpaper...

...inspired by Willy Wonka, McVitie's, a baked goods company in the United Kingdom (UK), decided to make the edible magic real by turning an entire elevator - lickable. Yes, lickable. There are 1,325 lickable Jaffa Cakes cookies (a sponge cake with orange jelly and chocolate) lining the wall which you can lick up and down as you go up and down.

The most important questions popped up in my mind are who gets to lick it and what about sharing germs?  According to internet sources, This is a concept wallpaper, and it's not open for public.  So only certain selected people got to lick the wall.  "Cake stickers" will be removed from the wallpaper immediately after being licked (but I wonder how could they keep tracked?!).

Gross or sweet!?  You decide.  But what next now...how about a real chocolate river?!

Chocolate Cupcakes with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

I made these cute chocolate cupcakes with chocolate buttercream frosting last weekend.  I dressed one up with red rasberry candy and one with black.  I have two candle holders at home, so I just put them on for their photo shots.  They look so cute together, the color of the pictures remind me a bits of the movie "Twilight".  This powerful pair make a wonderful centerpiece=)

"Julie and Julia"

Julia Child and Julie Powell
- both of whom wrote memoirs
- find their lives intertwined.
Though separated by time and space, both women are at loose ends...
until they discover that with the right combination of passion, fearlessness and butter,
anything is possible.

Dear Julie and Julia,

When I first saw this movie trailer on TV, I was like "hm...it sounds like a very fun movie to watch. I need to watch it!"  When the DVD came out, I got a copy of it.  After the first 30 minutes, I knew right away that this is going to become one of my all time favorite movies!

This movie absolutely touched my heart and inspired me to do something I am passionate about.

You stories -
Julia Child, who changed the way how American cooks and eats
Julie Powell, who proved that everything is possible - are simply inspiring!

In the middle of the movie, I was asking myself the same question, which Paul Child asked Julia -
What is it you really like to do?

Myself answered to myself:  "EAT and being CREATIVE!"

And another line from the movie hit my head -

Julie was telling her husband, Eric, what she loves about cooking "Chocolate cream pie! You know what I love about cooking? I love that after a day when nothing is sure and when I say nothing, I mean nothing. You can come home and absolutely know that if you add egg yolks to chocolate and sugar and milk, it will get thick. That's such a comfort."

Thank you Julie!  You spoke my mind.  That's exactly how I feel about baking and no matter how shitty my day was; I always found happiness and confront through whisking the eggs and pouring the batter into my cupcake pan.  This is a quote from you and I NEED to steal it to dedicate to you and Julia - "I was drowning, and you pulled me out of the ocean."

I just want to say thank you for sharing your inspiring stories, and make me chase after my dream with no fear!

with hugs,

Mrs. G
